Authorised Marriage Celebrant
(Religious Marriage Celebrant)
-yes I do Civil Ceremonies

A Celebrant works very hard and most people do not realise what they do and how much time it takes. The following will give you an insight into just what is involved in the duties of a Celebrant.
First of all, my fee includes unlimited phone calls, emails, SMS and guidance in all things wedding.
Preparation of Marriage Documents. There are 3 Marriage Certificates.
1. The "pretty" one you get to take home
2. The Official Marriage Certificate which is submitted to Births, Deaths & Marriages. You can apply to Births Deaths and Marriages online or Service Tas, approx 7-9 business days after your wedding through Service Tasmania for your Registered Copy.
3. A second Marriage Certificate which remains in my Register.
Making sure the Notice of Intention to Marry is correctly filled out and all documents sighted. Advising couples of how to obtain certificates if they don't have them.
At least 2 meetings with the couple (where practical) before the Ceremony. Of course extra meetings can be arranged if required.
Preparation of a Wedding Script in consultation with the couple. Up to 3 drafts may go back and forth by email before the finished product is decided upon. A Presentation Folder which has a copy of the Marriage Ceremony Script on beautiful paper for you to keep. (Full Wedding Ceremony Package only), In saying this, you may want to:
ELOPE? HAVE A SIMPLE CEREMONY WITH JUST YOU AND YOUR TWO WITNESSES?
FULL CEREMONY
ELOPEMENT
LEGALS ONLY
BABY NAMING, BLESSING
RENEWAL OF VOWS
Advice on legal requirements and wording in the Marriage Ceremony plus the availability of counselling services in the area (by law Celebrants have to advise couples of the availability of such services should they require them).
Preparation, travel and arranging a Wedding Rehearsal if requested by the couple.
Access to examples of Wedding Ceremonies, including Vows, format, music, poetry, etc. Advice on copyright restrictions and how to apply for licenses.
Officiating at the Wedding Ceremony,
Portable PA depending on size of wedding.
Submission of all Legal Documents to register the marriage to Births, Deaths and Marriages after the Wedding Ceremony.
Do we invite our Celebrant to the reception?
This question is often asked. Weddings are costly and really are for the Bride & Groom, their friends and families. I am always honoured to be asked but usually decline.... mainly because of time constraints (hours of travel etc). But I always am grateful if a photo or 2 can be sent to me in due course. Enjoy your day and send me some feedback after the wedding...I would really appreciate that. :)
A good celebrant is certainly not in it for the money - they LOVE what they are doing. Although the overheads are many. The cost just for being a celebrant includes the wedding stationary, postage, setting up a home office, correct attire, compulsory ongoing training, registration fees, public liability insurance, vehicle maintenance and many sundry items. The hours they put in can be many, just following up inquires, answering emails, phone calls can see them working long hours. Then there is the time "on the job" so to speak...interviews, rehearsals, the actual ceremony, travel to and from venues, and some times o/n accommodation.
Most Celebrants are at the venue between 30-45 minutes before the ceremony even starts. If you compare a Celebrant's fee to other items purchased for a wedding - flowers - photographer - musician...and the importance of their role in making your wedding a day you will remember with joy, then choose a Celebrant not according to the Fee but one who insists on giving a standard of excellence in everything they do. I endeavor always, to do that.
Cheryl.
